Boyne River Rest Stop, Banaraby

The last time I walked along the Boyne River, it was in Trim, County Meath, Ireland.  That was a few years ago, now, but I couldn't help but think of the differences between the two places. Ireland was green, lush, historically significant (perhaps only to Irish) and cool (in temperature). The Boyne in Queensland - at least at this spot - is in a dry spot (it's the dry season after all), Evidence of the recent floods, Environmentally not in the best shape, rubbish everywhere, but in it's own Australian way, beautiful.
This rest area is one kilometre south of Benaraby on the banks of the Boyne. There are about thirty caravans, campers, camper vans, fifth wheelers of all shapes and sizes here - camping for free, nix, zilch, nuttin', zero, nada. It's quite a little - temporary - village and has all of the attributes that you find in a village. There are "talkers" and "lookers" and "wealthy" and "flash" and "nice" and ignorant". There's backpackers travelling in Jucy campervans and fifth wheelers with multiple push-outs. A great cross-section of travelling Australians and visitors.
We are here overnight, then on to Hervey Bay. We are returning there to embark on a whale watch trip. Then on to Elliot Heads, south of Bundaberg for Friday, Saturday and departure to Birkdale (south of Brisbane) for one night prior to taking the barge to North Stradbroke Island for three nights, then home. Whew!  It's been a great trip, but it's not over yet!

A bloke was fishing in a tinny in the river

Until Hervey Bay, hoo roo.
